Friday Fiction – The Bermuda Triangle by Shawna Railey

“I’m telling you, Jim! The system is down!” The young pilot glanced sideways at his superior and swallowed loudly. “This is it.”
The spinning plane was plummeting towards the sea and everything Jim tried had failed. The moment he accepted his fate, a quiet peace washed over him. His wife flashed before his eyes: her smile, the tinkle of her laughter, the look of joy when his daughter was born, the look of exhaustion when his son came two years later. He remembered a recent day when his son toddled into his arms, smiling up at him with a drooling grin. He saw his daughter’s chubby arms wrapped tight around his neck.
“Daddy!” he heard his daughter squeal as if she were right beside him. “Daddy!”
Jim shut his eyes and the engine roared, spitting fire in its anger at failing.
His thoughts went back to his wife once again. She had shown him all the possibilities that life could bring.
His last thought was an epiphany and he knew it was the truth: Life was all about the love. Nothing else ever mattered.
When the plane hit the water, Jim was jerked into instant unconsciousness. He didn’t know how long he’d been out, but when he awoke, he was still trapped in the airplane. The icy water pressed against him on all sides, crushing his lungs into his beating chest. When he could no longer hold his breath, he gasped into the blackness and was shocked when he didn’t choke. He could taste the salty sea as he took in mouthfuls, but he was still able to breathe.
He looked over at William, his once fresh and effervescent assistant. His head bobbed gently against the current of water as his eyes lay closed. Jim unbuckled his belt before swimming over to William, quickly undoing his latch as well. He pulled the young man off the seat and out of the plane, now torn into pieces. The ocean was cold and dark. Jim didn’t know where to go or what to do, but he was grateful that he could still breathe.
A light appeared in the distance as Jim floated in the abyss, still holding tight to William. It started off as a tiny orb and grew larger and larger until a beautiful woman was swimming toward him. Her skin sparkled brilliantly and her soft tresses flowed around her as if made of silken gold. She was nude from the waist up and where her legs should have been was a fiery tail made of scales and fins.
“Follow me.” He knew she was speaking in a foreign language and yet he understood each word she said.
As Jim pulled William along, the light now displayed a wound on the front of William’s head that was leaving a trail of blood in its wake. It was clear to Jim that his assistant was dead and he finally let go, watching the body float away.
The mermaid stopped swimming and turned around. She easily went to William and hugged his body close to her own. With her other hand, she reached for Jim and pulled him along. They jetted into the darkness at lightning speed, the water pulling at Jim’s clothing and flowing through his hair.
It wasn’t long until they stopped in front of a towering door made of abalone shell. Jim watched as the mermaid knocked twice and then it swung powerfully open. With a flick of her tail she swam through with William and Jim followed.
They passed another mermaid who smiled in greeting and then they were gliding upward toward another bright light. Jim found it hard to keep up as his guide swam easily through the thick current. When his head broke free of the surface, he gasped at the air, almost choking in the process.
The mermaid laughed with glee at the look on his face. She tugged at his hand and gestured for him to take William. Jim waded throught the now shallow water and stepped onto a sandy beach, pulling William’s body with him onto the shore. A dozen women were flying towards him, circling once they reached the two men.
Jim looked away, shocked at their nudity. When he’d recovered from the surprise, he snuck a peek sideways. They were all exotic, each undeniably beautiful in her own right. Long flowing hair…plump red lips…curvaceous hips…and the longest legs he’d ever seen. Some had small breasts, some were large and full, but they were all incredibly perfect. He heard the mermaid giggle as she dived back into the sea and disappeared.
“Your friend,” one young woman said with the lovliest voice he’d ever heard. “We shall heal him.”
Jim said nothing as half a dozen girls surrounded William until they were one big ball of flesh. Jim couldn’t tell where his friend’s body ended and the women’s soft skin began. When he saw a pale skinned blonde straddle the young man’s body, he watched in awe as she began to rock, her hips gently riding against his middle. Another girl, this time a brunette, ran her fingers through his hair before bending down for a kiss. Jim looked away until he heard a gasp of air. William’s eyes were now open.
“Your friend will live.” He tore himself away to find a tanned woman standing before him. Her black hair hung past her bottom and her eyes were a startling shade of blue. “Let me heal you.”
She pulled gently on his arm and he followed. “Where am I?” he whispered, but she put a cool finger on his lips to hush him. Then she pushed her finger into his mouth.
He was taken to a cave with his own harem of women. They peeled off his wet clothes and before he knew what was happening, he was filled with a bliss unlike any he’d ever experienced before. The sex was pure ecstasy and it was dark by the time he finally crawled out of the chamber. He saw William sitting further down the beach, surrounded by more naked women.
“Doesn’t anyone wear clothes around here?” Jim asked with a nervous laugh. William smiled lazily up at him.
“Fine by me,” William mumbled, and he turned into the curvy woman as a pillow. Jim noticed there was no longer a gash in his young friend’s forehead.
Jim couldn’t help but take in his surroundings. The sparkling sand was soft and brushed off his skin easily. The sun was blazing in the sky and yet the gentle breeze kept him cool and comfortable. The water was a brilliant bluish-green and a bird sailed across the horizon.
“I am Aloria,” a tall woman spoke as she came towards them. “I ask that you follow me.”
The two men glanced at each other before standing. They let her lead them away against the protests of the group of girls still sitting on the beach. Jim watched her sway in the moonlight and found her walk mesmerizing.
“Please sit,” she told them as she pointed to two large chairs. They looked as though they were made of solid gold and cushions piled high on the bases.
Jim sat down in the closest one, feeling very much like a king.
“You have been brought here to our island by fate. It is not many who are lucky enough to share our island escape. I hope you have been well taken care of thus far?”
William grinned wickedly and Jim looked away. The guilt was starting to settle in.
“Yes,” Jim finally spoke. “I am a bit hungry…” He trailed off.
The young beauty nodded. “Of course.” With a wave of her hand, two shining silver trays were brought forth. A tiny red-head sat at Jim’s feet and began to feed him his most favorite foods. He looked over at William who was greedily slurping a bite of steak from a thick blonde.
“You now have a decision to make,” the woman continued once they began to eat. “You may stay here with us for as long as you shall live, or you must immediately go back to whence you came. The decision you make is final.
“As our guests, you will be expected to relax. There is no work for you here, no wars, no disease, no turmoil. We will take care of you, love you, treat you both as we would our prince. But if you choose to go, you do so knowing that you will never return. You do not have long to decide.”
Jim swallowed his cheesy potatoes and looked down at the red-head, now stroking his groin lovingly. He felt ashamed when his body responded.
“What if I choose to leave?” he asked and it was at once silent.
“No one has ever wanted to leave. Is this what you wish?”
William looked at his mentor as if he were insane. “Jim? What are doing?” Jim looked away uneasily. He would never see his children again. His wife’s face once again flashed before him.
“I’m staying,” William declared and his blonde companion jumped up and down with joy. Jim watched her breasts bounce with her pleasure and he sighed. He knew all along what his answer would be.
“I will stay here on the island.”
“And so it shall be.”
The men finished their meal and were taken to their rooms. Jim whistled at the sight of his chamber. The walls were made of sparkling glass windows and there was a bed big enough for ten people at least. It wasn’t long before Jim found out why.
In the morning, he woke up to a sea of arms and legs entangled with his own. A plate of food was once again brought and fed to him. This time, Jim felt a little less guilty.
“Come with me,” the same red-head purred. “Today is a big day for you.”
“It is?” he asked, stretching his arms up as he yawned. “Why’s that?” He leaned over and pinched her softly and she giggled.
“You are our prince,” she said simply.
“I know, but I was your prince yesterday, too. What makes today so special?”
She smiled sweetly. “We always sacrifice our prince.”
The smile died on Jim’s face. “Sacrifice?”
She licked her lips and stroked him. “Of course, silly. Your friend went first. Last night.”
She pointed to the window and Jim’s blood ran cold.
There, on the sandy shore, was William’s head, staring forever toward the ocean on a bloody wooden stake.
