Three-year Farmer City police contract approved

FARMER CITY — Council members unanimously approved a three-year contract with the police union that is retroactive to February 2010.

The contract establishes the department's first pay scale. The new scale is designed to "bring us up to a competitive wage for a community our size," according to Chief Larry Woliung, who is also Farmer City's acting city manager.

Hourly pay for officers in the contract's first year (2010) is $13.75 to $19.83. A 3 percent annual raise will put the salary range at $14.68 to $21.03 in 2012. A sergeant's pay will be 15 percent above those numbers.

Officers will receive retroactive pay at the increased rate in a lump sum, said Councilwoman Michelle Monaghan, who served on the negotiations committee with former Councilman Tom McNutt.

Officials did not have figures for the amount the contract increases would cost the city available at the meeting.
