Season 3 of ‘Hawthorne’ is off to an intense start with 'For Better or Worse'

Jada Pinkett-Smith is back as Christina Hawthorne with an all new season of HawthoRNe and there was no easing us back into things; no, season three kicked off with a fierce intensity.

The Tuesday, June 14 premiere, For Better or Worse, opened innocently enough with the wedding of Christina and Tom (Michael Vartan), but the calm didn’t last for long. The wedding was, of course, interrupted by a medical emergency. The happy couple got things taken care of at the hospital, but Tom was called into a meeting while Christina headed home to prepare for their wedding night.

As Christina left the hospital and into the dark parking lot, you just knew something was going to happen. Nothing good ever seems to come from a dark parking lot – especially on the tail of happiness...

Christina is viciously attacked in the parking lot while Tom is on the phone with her. She is nearly five months pregnant.

After a valiant effort by the doctors and nurses to save the baby, it is not to be. We watch the contrast of Christina and Tom going through the heartbreaking agony of delivering their baby, while Candy (Christina Moore) is giving birth at the same time to a healthy baby girl.

Christina is one incredible woman. She went to visit Candy, held her baby, who Candy named Hope Christina Sullivan, and managed to put on a brave face through all of it. She might have held it together while she was in the room, but she broke down as she wheeled herself out of Candy’s room. Heartbreak.
In an especially poignant moment, Detective Nick Renata (Marc Anthony) brings Christina a ring, but not just any ring, the ring Christina identified her attacker as wearing. The only words he speaks to her: "Sleep well." I still have goosebumps.

Coming up…

What a horrifying start to their married life; not only will Christina and Tom have to contend with the tragic loss of their baby, but learning to cope with the attack and the aftereffects from that…They have a long road ahead of them.

Being the workaholic that she is, Christina is probably hoping to lose herself in her work, only to discover that her job as Chief Nursing Officer has been given to her dear friend, Bobbie (Suleka Mathew). What will this do to their friendship and where will Christina go from here?
